Course Title: KS4 - 4 core Elements - Work readiness

Course description: Our KS4 courses are supportive, enriching and creative, aimed at those who are at risk of exclusion. The young people will benefit from small class sizes, creating a learning environment that suits the needs of the individual. We work with the young person to identify their strengths and overcome their barriers, giving them sight of their potential. Within a unique environment, we encourage and develop aspirational thinking in each learner, giving them confidence to think about their next steps into employment or further education and training.
A full programme can consist of 4 core elements – however, it is flexible enough that each individual can focus on the elements that best suit their needs and school timetables

Course Content options
Vocational Studies and work readiness
Functional Skills – English and maths
Supported Work Experience
Mental Health Support – Subject to suitability

           Main subject areas:
Carpentry and Joinery
Furniture making
Painting And Decorating
Business Retail & Admin
  1. Functional Skills: Our English and maths tuition is an engaging and innovative alternative to GCSEs. We work in small groups, with each learner working at their own pace. The Functional Skills programme is linked to our vocational subjects, but can also be taken as a stand-alone course. Covering practical maths, reading, writing and communication, learners gain a better understanding of these core skills and learn how to apply them in real life
  2. Supported Work Experience: Developing work-based skills are crucial to long-term individual success. Our Supported Work Experience offers individuals the chance to develop employability skills within an understanding and supportive environment. Young people will work in a number of job roles within our social enterprise, inndi.co.uk. The work undertaken will be flexible and varied from day-to-day, and will cover all elements of retail and e-commerce: website population, stock taking, product creation, order completion, food handling, retail
Mental Health Support: Working with Oxford Health, we are part of a unique partnership with leading Oxfordshire third-sector organisations, to increase the options open to the county’s young people. The partnership is supported, managed and funded directly by CAMHS and helps young people access mental health support early. Subject to suitability, a young person could take part in a 12 week, 1-hour-a-week support programme alongside their other studies at Synolos, or as a stand-alone offer. This service is free to access, but has limited places and is subject to NHS guidelines
